Hi. I’m Corey.

I am a Colorado-based writer and editor specializing in outdoor adventure journalism.

Through my work, I aim to elevate the stories of everyday people, inspire a new generation of adventurers, and spark an interest in climate and conservation.

I’ve always been a muddy-around-the-knees kind of kid. I grew up in north Georgia, ankle-deep in creeks, catching frogs. In college at the University of North Carolina, I finished out my environmental science degree studying salamanders at a remote field site in the western Appalachians.

I’ve been able to translate that deep environmental knowledge and love of adventure to my work as an editor at Backpacker and Outside, and as a contributor at Smithsonian, Alpinist, Atlas Obscura, and more.

(More on my past work experience here.)

Today I am a full-time freelance writer and editor based in Boulder, Colorado. I take pride in a story well-told, and I love working with new writers on discovering their voices and polishing their craft.

My current specialties include athlete profiles, survival stories, and environmental journalism, as well as essays about the messier parts of life in the mountains.

In my spare time, I am an enthusiastic climber, trail runner, paddler, and volunteer wildlife monitor.
